HI, I have a 1966 Johnson 80hp V4 motor on my 16 foot 1967 fiberglass runabout. The boat currently has the old cable and pulley steering system hooked up. Last summer out on the lake the I had the boat at wide-open throttle when the cable became disconected from the drum on the steering wheel, causing the boat to nearly flip over! luckily it was only me in the boat and I was able to grab ahold of the windshield so not to be ejected from the boat! needless to say, I don't want this to happen again, especially with the rest of my family in the boat, so I want to upgrade to the newer style steering.

Does anybody have any suggestions on what setup I need? Like I said, its a 1966 80hp johnson (model# V4AL-18C) on a 16 foot fiberglas runabout. The problem is, on my motor, it is setup for the two ends of the cable pulleys to hook on to the motor (through 2 I-hooks) so is there some sort of bracket that i need at the motor end? I have seen a couple kits from teleflex, but I am not really sure what the difference is between the different types, or If they will work with my motor. the motor is also manual tilt if that matters. Any help would be greatly appreciated! - Dan
