1965 Johnson 40hp Water Intake Screen

The water intake screen is old and full of tar type crud. Is the screen servicable by removing the plug? Is the plug remove by drilling and pulling it out with a slap hammer?

After a bit of searching I cannot find a replacemnet plug. Any thoughts?

No big deal. I am assuming you have a manual shift motor, model RDxxxx, right? As you suggest, drill and tap it and yank it out with a slide hammer. The new plug is part number 300077, available from any Evinrude dealer. The screen if you need it is part number 302521

That's great. I did a serch on the 300077 prior to posting and couldn't find anything online. I'll try the dealer.
