I just bought an old 45 Chrysler outboard. From my reseach on the serial and model # it's frin 1965. I am not even sure if it runs or not. I want to do a compression test but I don't know what the compression is. Does any one know ?

Welcome Aboard!

Compression is when the piston compresses the air fuel mixture in the combustion chamber prior to the spark plug firing. You need a compression gauge (you can get one at your local auto parts store) Remove your spark plugs, attach gauge, spin over engine and it will read the amount of compression in the cylinder. Record your results for each cyld. Should be around 115-125lbs per cyld and near equal to each other.

What is the serial and mod # of your motor?

I will get the #'s and some pics for you tomorrow. Is there anything that I should replace right off the hop. carb, fuellines, etc... I am not affraid to put a couple hundread bucks into the motor if the compression is ok. I was assured that the motor was fogged before it was stored 4 years ago. The motor does turn over but I haven't fired it yet. The motor looks to be in excelent condition for its age and the price was too good to turn down.
Thanks Rick
greatly appreciated
