1965 40hp Johnson seahorse electric gear shift

1965 Johnson seahorse electric gearshift not shifting. Where do they come from and how does it work. The wires are blue and green. It just all of a sudden stopped working

Check the voltages at those wires. When in forward gear (key on), there should be nominal 12V on the green one. Same on blue one when in reverse. No voltage on either when in neutral. NEVER, EVER any voltage on both at the same time.

If it doesn't pass, check the shift switch in the control, and wiring. Could be the fuse is blown, but then it wouldn't start either.

Is the battery fully charged? Type C gear oil topped up:?

The blue wire is for reverse, green for forward.
