I picked up this old Evinrude a few days ago. Model 75493D, SN E02770. It's a good candidate to come back to life. The guy I got it from is looking for the Selectric push button control that goes with it. If he doesn't come through, what are the chances of finding another one? I understand that this model can be converted to a manual shift. How tough and expensive is that process. I do have the original owner's manual and the installation and operating instructions on the push button remote control. I sure would like to bring this thing back to life. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Take a look on EBay for a Selectric Shift - make sure you get the right one, because the later Hydroelectric shift system for Evinrude motors also used a shift system called "Selectric." That system, however, works differently than the one that goes with your motor.

I don't know if that motor can be converted to mechanical shift, but would hazard a guess that it would cost more money and be more trouble than it is worth.

Gotta watch those "I'll look for this and that" guys - most often, if they had the "this and that," they'd have provided them in the first place!

New shift switches are about 400 bucks, if you can find one. Did you get the junction box and wiring with the motor? That's several hundred more.

I saw that. Thanks. Got to make sure I get the right one. I think the one with no bids yet for $85 is the one for me.

Thanks again

Re: 1964 Starflite VI Selectric 75hp

Just an update. I managed to find and get a shiftbox on ebay for $85. Once it's in my hands, I'll have all the components at least. Did a compression check the other day. I'm encouraged. Got readings around 80psi, within 5 psi across all cylinders. That was spinning it with a pull rope. I'm sure once I spin it with the starter my numbers will increase. I'm going to go ahead and replace my impeller, probably change out the fuel lines, change the oil and lube it up and see if she fires up. Wish me luck.

Make sure you use the "premium blend" or type C gearcase oil in that Selectric shift.

The motor uses either a magneto distributor or a battery ign distributor.
Rotors and caps can be expensive and hard to find. Not sure if both types are hard to find.I believe plug wires screw into the cap.
