I have a 1964 16' fiberglass Santana Classic boat for sale, but I have a guy interested in buying JUST the engine. The engine is the original engine for the boat : a 1964 Homelite 4stroke 55hp that runs GREAT!!! I am completely unsure of what the value of this engine is and was wondering if anyone would have an idea. Thanks!

to be honest, if you have someone who wants it. sell it. they don't go for much on ebay when they are there. parts are not available. they were great motors, but did not catch on. if not you may not find another buyer for 10years.

Sell it for what you can get for it. The boat is probably worth more without it. $250-$500? Or save yourself the hassle and only sell as a package and let him deal with the boat. It's not really worth much. If it's on a trailer, the trailer is probably worth more.

There is a definate though small collector following for that motor. Most likely your buyer is a Homelite fan.Keep in mind condition is everything when pricing a collector motor.
It is based on a little overhead cam motor from the Crosley cars of the 1950s.
There is a Homelite site where I have seen motors for sale.
Maybe you can find it.You might try aomci.org for info.

The Fageol/Homelite/Bearcat was 30 years ahead of its time. Smooth, quiet, clean, light for a 4 stroke and would run all day on very little gas.

There is a very active group of collectors/aficionados that are easy to find through Google. Plenty of parts and even reconditioned engines are available.

If it is in great condition don't take less than $500 for it.
