1964 Evinrude fastwin stator removal?

How does the stator come off? Do the electricals have to come out to get to the screws in the retaining plate? I was hoping to remove it in one piece. Thanks

A 1964 does not have a stator.

You probably mean the armature plate. 4 bolts hold it on, usually Phillips head. Two pass through the coils and the other two are right on the plate. Remove all four and it will lift right off. You don't have to remove the points or coils to get the plate off.
