i am attempting to help someone with their motor. i am unfamiliar with this unit...and am trying to get as much basic information on it as possible. i am working with a 1964 evinrude starflight, 90 h.p.,model # 90493S. no. of cyl.'s, carbs, compression..etc.

You might get some info on THIS site .<br />Here are some info about the 1964 90hp Johnson ( same engine ? )<br />4 cylinders<br />89,5 cu. in.<br />Bore 3 3/8 stroke 2 1/2<br />Electric gear ( use ONLY omc type C gear lube ( omc premium blend )<br />Weight 242 lbs (15" transom )<br />Weight 247 1/2 lbs (20" transom )<br />1 four-barrel carburator <br />Ignition:<br />battery type ignition ( car type )<br />breaker point gap 020<br />spark plug gap 030<br />Spark plugs ,Champion j4j ,Autolite A21x , AC m42k .

Also check out Joe Reeves excellent post on how to set up the downdraft carb here.<br /><br />The Champion J4J plug has been changed to the J4C (very little difference).

droll and paul: thanks very much for your input. i just found out today that the owner also has a service manual for this unit, which is going to hopefully be a big plus, once i start this project. the mtor did run , but will now not start, and it has sat now for about two years, so i may have to really start from scratch with this. if it wasn't for the fact that this guy is my boss, i would probably never get involved. i guess i'm a glutton for punishment....huh?again...thanks for the info and sites!!
