We just purchased this sweet little boat from out Lake association garage sale back in June. We bought it from the granddaughter of the original purchaser. She got the boat (and the cottage he built) after he passed about 5 years ago. From about 1983 to 2013 the boat was kept in a garage in Chicago. The granddaughter brought it back home to Indiana about that time in hopes of restoring it themselves. Fast forward 5 years, and they decided they were never going to get it done and decided to see it. I bought it from them at the garage sale for $175 - boat, motor and tip trailer!!!

Compared to other vintage boats we’ve seen and others bought to restore (and subsequently sold because they required WAY more work then we anticipated) she’s seems to be in pretty good shape.

This site is my go-to for all things related to boat maintenance, repair and restoration for many years. But now that I’ve just joined iBoats, I’m sure I will have lots of questions as we move along.

Nice addition to the Starmada, welcome aboard.

She looks great for her age and the seats condition is unreal. Thanks for the back story too!

Oh and the little clipboard top right is the best way to add pics form this interface, it puts them in full size. :).

Steppads: strictly a DIY casting a new set from a mold made from your originals

Rubrail or side rail (the 1 w the 2 spear points)?

Spear points are also NLA, have been for a couple years. Attwood quit making then 5yrs ago +/- and it took a few years for NOS to be depleted. Might be a good cottage industry to mold and re-cast new ones in solid aluminum. Esp if you like technical, hot work for a little return. A few dozen SC owners would probably appreciate it....

I know 2 guys on another forum that cast stuff themselves, but mostly only for a different brand of 50s tin boats. And sell a few somewhat reasonably to other owners of that brand......

I don’t need the spear points. All those are in good condition.

I read a post on here about making a mold of your emblem to make new ones.

https://forums.iboats.com/forum/boa...tarcraft-ski-champ-restoration/page5?t=352569

Would making the new step pads be the same? What would you put in thei mold? Can you get some sort of rubber to fill the mold with? Or am I confused?

Has anyone had any luck finding a suitable replacement for the rubber rub rail?

Not sure how concerned you are about keeping it original but you can replace much of that stuff with wood, I even made new rub rails out of 3/4" X 1" black locust wood and it looks great. I think its better than the original plastic stuff.
