i have rescently just rebuilt the carborator and removed and cleaned up the power head and pixtons area. i had weak spark before i did this and was going to rebuild the magneto but don't have access to proper flywheel puller. anyhow after the carborator rebuild i have great spark and by viewing the points throught the holes in the flywheel i visually inspected the points to be opening and closing at the same time with equal gaps. now my engine will finally start. i release the gas valve, open the choke valve, place the acceleration lever to fast (full power), and crank the engine. when it starts the engine does not rev like it should at full power. if i move the acceleration to a slower power it will stall and also if i push the choke back in it will also stall. during the carborator rebuild there apeared to be no blockages with the air and water tests while cleaning it out. float floater looked in good shape as it may have been rebuilt in prior years. only one thing that i feel i probably did not do correctly is adjust the high and low speed fuel adjustment valves correctly. i gave them both a 1 and a half turn back out. is this correct for both high and low speed fuel adjustment pins or should they be different? if this is ok what do you think might be my problem? thanks in advanced.
gary,

gary,

1. If the float was of the cork style, you should replace it. Those tended to sink.

2. 1 1/2 turns sounds a little lean. Turn them out further. Once you get it started, you can turn them back in. Turning them back in and listening, while doing so will tell you when you have the mixtures right. Be reminded, that you may have to do this often as weather (temp.) conditions change.

Adjust the high speed jet only above 1/2 throttle. The low speed below 1/2.

3. You should not need to start it on "wide open". The mid point is actually where it was recommended that these engines be started.

That is one of the finest engines ever made. When tuned right, you can almost count the power strokes in each cylinder at idle. Very sweet.
