Well i have it up and running after replacing Coils, Condensers, Points , plugs and wires. Next step will be water pump impeller and maybe a lower end seal kit. When i picked up this motor last fall with a broken prop and crank key i did not have much hope of getting it going but i did get it going with help from all of you here at iboats. This is my first restore job and i love working with these old outboards and i got to meet lots of fine people :)

Thanks guys

Heres a short clip of it running.

That' s a great motor you have and it looks like it runs very nicely. I like to work on the older outboards too but, without the advice I get from this web site, I wouldn't dare to touch one! This place rocks!:)

For my first it was a very nice motor to work on and it was super clean , no oil leaks at all and yes this forum rocks :)

I have a question for you Glenn if you don't mind. I am going to do an ignition overhaul on my 1963 18HP Johnson and was curious what brand parts you went with and if you were happy with everything? Thanks.

Re: 1963 Johnson 18hp follow up.

Everything i used was Sierra, Coils, Breaker Points, condensers and carb kit .Plug wires i got from a local bike shop. In the breaker point's kit i did not like the little spring clips so i used the ones that were already on the original breaker point's and in the sierra carb kit the only thing i did not use was the float valve and seat because the one in the carb looked real nice so i figure that i have a new spare if ever needed.
If ever you need some help im no expert but im always willing :)
