Needless to say this is scary at full speed.

Were should I look to tighten this adjustment to prevent this from happening again?

Thanks for your help

Probably not just an 'adjustment' problem, but a worn out clutch dog/forward gear.

JD, It is probably a worn clutch dog, if you have a mechanical shift motor. If electric shift, I am out of my league discussing.

If mechanical shift, you can check adjustment. Look behind the shift lever on motor, under the cowling. There should be a belcrank with a nut and a slot. The scribe marks indicate when you should be engaging the gears. it could be out of adjustment.

Here are two other ideas. The shift dogs are reversible as are the gears on a lot of those models. Maybe you can pick the best side of the dog and the gears and match 'em up.

The second idea is to over-adjust the motor into forward, and not have reverse.
