1963 50 HP MERC

hi i have a 1963 50hp merc someone gave me this i just hooked everything up and when i turn the key the motor turns i get spark but it wont start i pulled the plugs and it looks wet with gas so i assume its getting fuel and when i turn on water nothing comes out the pee hole not even when its tryin to start:'(

With a good impeller it won't pee intill it starts, As far as not starting give ia a squirt of fuel in the carbs to see if it will fire, if it done you have ign problems, if you have spark and it don't fire the mag belt could be on wrong

Sorry for the double post, hit the wrong key. There's a checklist at the first forum page called resurrecting an sleeping outboard. Go through that list and post back what you find. You have spark, fuel to the plugs, both good signs. How old/fresh is the fuel? Is there a kill switch, is it hooked up right and operating. Is it turning over fast or slow? These are things you need to know before we can help you out.
