Hello Fellas?.me again?

I have a 1964 RDSL 40hp long shaft motor. I?m swapping out a 1963 RDS 25D short shaft lower unit to make the 64 a short shaft motor. The 64 lower case is pretty dinged up and has a broken fin and the 63 case is in good shape except for one thing?

?the needle bearing Ref. # 32 needs to be replaced. I figured while I?m there I?ll replace Ref # 38 bearing as well. These bearings are press fit so I?ll have to take it somewhere to get the work done?errr?

?here?s where I need some help. I have a parts catalog for the 64 model. I need to know if the bearings are the same part # on the 63 model. The 64 catalog shows Ref. # 32 is 376856 and Ref. # 38 is 376858. Is there someone that will be so kind as to verify that these bearings are the same used on the 63 model?

I found the parts on eBay and will like to know if they are correct before I pull the trigger?

Thanks a ton again folks?

It's interesting that #32 upper pinion bearing is bad without a bunch of other stuff being bad. But whatever.

The bearings are the same, 1963-64.

Needle bearings are pressed in from the numbered side. Pressing it out (from the plain side) destroys them. So you will need a new one. The big one, lower pinion bearing, should go in and out ok.

...man, ain't nothing getting past you guys is there!...lol

Of course there?s more to the story? I guess that I had one of those ?o?chit? moments. I stripped and washed out the housing; not realizing that there was a set of needle bearings deep in there. I?m guessing that after sitting for a while, there was enough moisture left on those bearings to seize them up. I keep spraying and soaking them with rust penetrate in hope of free it up?no luck so far?errr. I figure at this point in the game, it'd be best to go ahead and replace the bearing and save the headache in the long run.

Thanks again for your help FR...I owe you and many others one...
