Ok I am new to baoting in general. I recently purchased a 15 ft aluminum boat with a 1963 40hp Evinrude Outboard.

It is model# 60453S

Do I mix the gas I use with oil? And if so does anybody know the suggested ratio?

Also anybody know where i could find an inexpensive booklet or bit of info on this particular motor?

Thanks.

Re: 1963 40Hp Evinrude takes mixed gas

I seem to get a 1964 60hp engine for that model number. Is it a V-4 or a Twin? The V-4 (60hp) will have four spark plugs, and the twin (40hp and under) will have two.
Either way, you mix 1 part TCW-3 rated 2 stroke oil to 24 parts gasoline. When you buy your oil, it should say TCW-3 on the back somewhere. It's blue, by the way. Do *not* use 2-stroke oil ment for chainsaws, etc, since it's formulated for air-cooled engines.
Here's some info, as cheap as it gets. If you own a set of wrenches, don't walk but surf to iboats store and order yourself up an aftermarket manual. It'll pay for itself quickly. You'll need to determine what model you have first, though.

24:1 ratio is "1 quart of oil to 6 gallons of gas" for the mathematically challenged. I had to look this one up, since I'm used to litres. (how many furlongs to the hogshead do you get??? ;) )

Paul dont like to step on any toes but
Mix for the V4 is 50:1 when using tcw3 rated oil. Even for 58s.
A 50 year Evinrude dealer told me 50:1 on
"larger"motors to 1960.Not sure what constitutes
"Larger" motor.
