I need some help I was out on the water for a few hours and everything was great. I was in fwd gear going about 15 knots when the motor revd high and fell out of gear. I tried putting her back and nothing , she goes into reverse just not forward. The connections for the wires for the Electra shift at the head are connected, I haven’t check the lower unit yet. I just put new oil in the lower end too. Anyone have any experience with these electrashifts ?

Perhaps the tab broke off the forward spring.----Perhaps you lost voltage going to the forward electromagnet----If you switch the 2 wires can you get forward if you put control in reverse ??------Those units are simple and easy to repair.----But most folks are scared of these electric shift units.

EK-24 = 1962 40hp Johnson (Electramatic) Electric shift.

Either you've lost voltage (12v) to the lower unit forward coil (green wire if I remember correctly) or you've developed a lower unit problem (shift coil, hub, or spring).... If the propeller doesn't take hold at all, even at idle... look for a no voltage to lower unit problem.... shift switch failure, broken wire, whatever.

Check the prop -- believe it has a rubber hub that may have spun loose. Check the drive pin as well
