I have a 1962 Evinrude that has developed an oil leak. The oil is comming from a weep hole about 3" above the prop on the righ side. I have a nice shop and tools, I would like to fix it myself. Any advice and/or part numbers would be welcome. Thanks!

The weep hole I'm refering to is about 1/4 inch in size. The fluid leaking is close to black. Thanks

I just checked the gear oil and it's still full. I think the problem is the carb weeping a little gas and washing a little grease down to that weep hole. I have a carb kit on order, should be here tomorrow. The gas seems to be leaking from the unit next to the carb that has the lean/rich (choke?) writing on it. Hope the kit includes those gaskets as well.

All the exhaust runs out through the lower unit, and a lot of unburnt fuel/oil (especially with a 24:1 mix) comes out various weep holes in the lower unit. It gets black from washing carbon out of the midsection on it's way down. All two-stroke engines will do this especially if it's been idled a while.

If you look on your engine block, in the front but way down there's a little panel held on by two screws. That's a valve that's designed to take fuel/oil which puddles in various spots inside the engine and dump it down the leg. It comes out pretty much just next to the driveshaft inside the midsection.

The carb kit has gaskets and such for every part of the carb, including the rich/lean knob packing.
