need some ideas, went on vacation last week, after about 3 days, the idle got intermittent. One time it will idle smoothly for a while, then it will slow down a bit and idle roughly. kind of like a surge.Give it a little throttle and then idle it down and it is alright. It also got rather hard to start at times after the idle problems began. To get it to start, I had to increase the throttle to wide open. I recently put a new fuel line and primer bulb. Also after the idle problems started, the bulb would not get hard, it stays kind of squishy.

Your '62 should have the old style fuel pump with the glass base. Do you notice air in there?<br />Second question, when the engine is acting up does pumping the primer bulb help (while it's running)?

i did not check on air in the glass bowl, but i do have a see through fuel filter within 8 inches of the motor. the filter empties of fuel at wot,(you can still see a bit of fuel flowing through) when the engine is shut down, the filter fills with fuel, i can see air bubbles coming from the engine side of the filter. i squeezed the primer bulb and it did not seem to help. by the way, i rebuilt the fuel pump yesterday. i sucked on the vacuum side and tasted gas, i figured the diaphragm was breached so i rebuilt it. even after repairing the pump, the bulb still feels squishy. note, before i went on vacation, the bulb would get hard. btw, at a real fast idle or at cruising speed, the rough idle and other symptoms go away. by the way, thanks guys
