Hi a buddy of mine has a 1962 28hp with lower unit problems , he used it with no oil plugs and now everything is seized . Question is he can get a complete 1968 33hp ,are the lower units the same .As far as we can see they both use the same gasket an seal kit. Are they the same lower unit ? Any imput would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for now,:)

Yes, they are the same. Do not try to use a gearcase from the "Superquiet" models, which are the late fifties 35hp and sixties 40 hp models with the "fat" midsection. They are not the same and will not work.

Actually, to keep from misleading somebody else that might read this, the 28 and 33 are not the same. They have different pinion gears and bearings. They had to be changed with the introduction of the 30hp. The 33 is the stronger design. You can use a 33 gearcase on a 28, but you really shouldn't use a 28 on a 33, even though it will physically fit.

Ok so what i understand here is that if he removes the complete lower unit from the 28 he can slip the 33 unit into its place . Drive shaft and shifter linkage are the same.Correct me if im wrong F R .
