the original decals(not sure of the term) that were on the side of the boat is "the newport line" and then under that "fiberglas". the one s in fiberglass i thought was unique.

I hit fiberglassics.com and I couldn't find anything on a Newport boat there either. I also tried theclassicboathouse.com and got nothing there.

Do you have any more pictures of the boat?

It's common knowlege that 1961 boats that are 14' long are the best boats in the world. :D

steve, i trolled those sites also, nothing. not to hijack my own thread, but im trying to recreate your bimini. i see you have attached the straps to cleats. my cleats are not adventagousley positioned. not being that familiar with fiberglas, can i drill a hole where needed and install a cleat ? do i need to reinforce? and if so reinforce with what? any pics or info on a 1961 newport are still wanted.

Yes, you can drill into fiberglass to install more cleats. I would use 1/2" plywood as a backing plate to help distribute the load from the cleats. Not only will you have a place to tie the bimini, but you will have more cleats for your fenders while docked.

I'm curious to find more info on your boat too. It looks similar to the Larson Playboy, or Glaspar Sport Lido. I've never heard of a Newport. Good luck - I'll report back if I find something.

steve,
these are the original emblems that were on the side of the boat. maybe they will ring a bell for someone. back to the bimini project. should i reinforce the swivel mounts the same way as the cleats? thanks again.
