Hi guys/gals....

Brand new to the forum so first things first...hello :D My name is Bryan and I have recently acquired MY first boat. I've grown up boating and the family business used to be boat repair so I'm not new to the "sport" just new to ownership...

The "beauty" I picked up is an early 70's speedboat. Been sitting in a barn for 15 years and is in desperate need of some TLC. I haven't had a chance to look up the HIN so I'm not sure exactly what it is...

So my question is this...the motor has been sitting untouched (and I assume not properly "winterized") and am looking for some advice getting it running.

I've done some searching and have a little know how but to be honest I am not that familiar with outboards.

The gas tank is full lol so I know I'll need to empty/siphon that out and get fresh gas/oil (50:1 ratio I believe). All the fuel lines look to be in tact. I know I will need to replace the gear lube in the lower unit, water pump impeller, spark plugs, and maybe rebuild the carb?? Also from what I've read need to get some oil back into the cylinders via the spark plug wells.

Am I missing anything??

I'll post a pic soon ;)

Hi
I have a 61 800 FGS as well, mine hadn't run in 35 yrs where I got it
There is a link here on how to properly "awaken" an old motor. I belive its listed in the FAQ's. The old inline six's are awsome motors, and really quite easy to keep running. I'll give you the link to how to link and sync them, and I would recomend getting the pre 1964 service manual. You can find cd's on E-bay of it.http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=168855

Awesome!! Thanks for the link..I hadn't found that one yet. I did come across the "awakening a sleeping outboard" a bit earlier. Great info in there!!

And also ordered a cd manual off eBay :)
