Hey guys, thanks for the help with 76 35HP Johnson and the temp sensor.

Got another problem with a rebuild project my son is working on... he has a 1961 Merc 700 E2 and someone has tried painting the exhaust housing and lower unit and needless to say didn't do a very good job. My son put paint stripper on it and it stripped it to the metal. Now that we are to the metal what steps should we take to repaint it in a way that will last?

Your help is appreciated.

John in Mississippi

Hello jbond
Clean it up good. Prime it with zinc chromate primer(the green stuff). You can get it at a marine store etc. Then paint it any color you like. Tempo brand paints has Oem colors. I just use crylon if it's going to be black or white. I got a deal on some discontinued auto paint once. I called it evenrude blue, it wasn't, it worked well and looked good also. Like anything else, take your time, and you will have a nice job.
