I took the carb off to put a kit in it and don't remember how the orange idle know goes back on. It's way too loose so I'm thinking maybe something goes on the shaft. I'l be looking for any suspicious parts while I wait to hear back. Thanks, Jeff

wrap layers of teflon on the shaft splines ..... maybe the mating splines inside the knob got enlarged or busted..

solutions.... buy new knob or

try to rebuild the splines inside the knob by greasing the shaft side splines and dropping "some" 1 minutes epoxy inside the knob then slip it on the shaft while it hardens up ... it should pull out later

(rinse the inside of the knob with carb cleaner to remove any grease or dirt ....before putting in the epoxy drops Watch your eyes when spaying

followup: I got everything working thanks to your help. but stripped out a spark plug hole and had to buy a new head and gasket. Thanks for the help though.
