I recently purchased a 61 Evinrude 10hp and it was shipped with the tiller arm removed. The couple of generic repair manuals I have consulted do not cover how to reinstall this. Can anyone give advice? I can't seem to spread the bottom of the handle apart enough to go over the two pegs on the motor. Must be a simple trick to it. Thanks.

Hi Barry
You will have to remove the grip. Then remove the two screws found under the grip, then remove the one large screw located about halfway down the handle. This will give you two handle halves. If you need more info email me alcan.fixit@ verizon.net.

Sice this topic is up, I have a 10hp Johnson 1960. It has a big ring with "Fast", "Start" ,"Slow" and "Stop" on it. How to remove that?

Thanks for the great information! Once it was in two pieces it went right on. I would like to get a shop manual for this motor. Any ideas where I might find one, other than the expensive reprints?

Barry - Often original ones show up on ebay much cheaper than what Ken Cook wants. You have to keep your eye on it though.
To warn you, my '63 OEM manual says nothing at all about the tiller arm. Both manuals have their failings.
