Hello !

Just bought a 1961 Bell Boy 17' runabout with a Volvo BB70 engine, and Volvo-Penta outdrive PZ #3218 and no other model number.

I'm trying to determine whether the outdrive takes #90 weight Hypoid Oil or 30 weight engine oil? The drain/fill plugs on the bottom drive unit are on the starboard side, and only about 7" apart. The dipstick is on the back of the second drive assembly, right under the lifting handle.

It's definitely an early model, any help greatly appreciated !

Being a 61, you have almost the original drive. It does take the 90W gear lube, and it has a claw clutch (whatever that means)
Engine, have no idea, an old service bulletin lists it as 65 hp, but if you go here http://www.volvopenta.com/volvopent...lication_search/pages/publication_search.aspx and type in BB70 in the engine box, you will get some info that may help.
The BB also indicates it's an inboard engine, not an outdrive engine. Perhaps it was replaces years ago.

Thank you Don S !

I followed your lead and found the engine specs and can now get a shop manual.
