Hey guys- I dont have any pictures to post so I know this is gonna be tough. Does anyone have any ideas on where I can find what year a boat and motor are without any serial #'s on the boat or motor(that I saw.)Looked all over the transom and nothing. The motor is a I/O 4cyl-2 on either side of the block- but I couldnt find a dip stick or even oil filter on the thing. The guy that wants to get rid of it has no paperwork on it either. The boat has an electric windshield on it(closed bow) and the engine compartment on it has hatches like a Delorian. Probably 18-19ft. The thing looks like a car..has fins on the back. Hope some one has an idea?! Sorry for the long post.

ScottRock,

Not sure exactly. OMC made some 2-cycle I/O's using the outboard powerheads turned on end.

The boat may be a Johnson or Evinrude brand.

To my knowledge, they were made in the early to mid sixties.

Re: 1960ish OMC Deluxe

DJohns19, Its' the smallest motor I've ever seen for an I/O. The only thing on the boat, motor, or lower unit is the name plate on the side of the boat that says "OMC Deluxe" and the lower unit just says OMC. The boat itself is in great shape for as old as it is. No mushy floor or transom. More solid than my "82 Galaxy! Anyway the guy who wants to dump it said his kid accidently put oil in the gas tank and it smoked like a pig so they just shut it off. Did you say it might be a 2 cycle? Guess that might explain why no oil filter or dip stick? Omc is out of business arent they? Anybody know?

ScottRock,

Again, I'm a little fuzzy on these. But, it is a 2 cycle. You should be able to see the spark plugs sticking directly out of the heads. No valve covers, thus no valves.

I believe they may have had oil injection-could be wrong about that one.

They shared many parts with the 2-cycle outboards and the 4 cycle I/O's.

Yes, OMC is gone. There are still some parts around, however the I/O line has been the hardest hit.

Djohns19- You're dead on about the spark plugs sticking right out in plane sight. The guy only wants $500 for the whole rig because his wife wants it out of there side yard. I was looking for a good winter project but I know zip about OMC or if you can even get parts for the motor as old as I'm guessing it would be. The boat itself is pretty cool looking and like I said in great shape for being around 50 years old. No wood rot that I can feel or hear when I tap on the transom and floor. Any other ideas about finding and using a serial # for i.d.? Thanks by the way for your replies!

ScottRock,

Basically, as mentioned previously, it's an outboard (OMC V-4) turned on end and hooked to an OMC outdrive. The hardest parts to find would be for the mid section and the outdrive. The powerhead parts might not be too bad to find.

This is my personal opinion.

I wouldn't touch it. It was a wierd set up in OMC's big days.

Unless you are willing to do extensive research and be willing to scrounge for parts, it could be a nightmare.

On the other hand. If you want something that no one else has-that's it!

There is one expert on this board (Joe Reeves) that may be a wealth of information for you.

DJohns19-
Thanks for the advice and help! It was exactly what I was looking for. I am probably a glutton but I would like to find out more. Any idea how to contact Joe Reeves? I am pretty new to the board. Thanks again! I really do appreciate your time!

ScottRock, Go to www.fiberglassics.com. You may be able to find the boat there, or post on their forum and someone might know what you're looking at. Good luck!

ScottRock,

Just post another topic and use a title such as: "Hailing Joe Reeves".

Thanks BlackSmoke! The "Fiberglassics" sight was great! I actually saw pictures of the boat and emailed a couple of people that own the same boat!
Thank you also to DJohns19! If I dont get much help from the guys at "Fiberglassics" I am definitely going to try your suggestion about talking to Joe Reeves. This board is GREAT! :D
