I have a 1960 johnson Super Sea-Horse 40 HP. Model RDS-22
In a manual I have acquired they show a generator and circuits. My engine has an electric starter and a hand starter as well but no generator. The brackets opposite the starter do not appear to be missing any components. Is this engine supposed to have a generator or did some come without it?

Re: 1960 Johnson Generator question

from what i've read on this site they were not too usefull to begin with. they only would charge above 2000 rpms, or something like that. someone with more experience will tell you more soon.

You can put one on if you like. You'd need the generator and it's bracket, a voltage regulator, a flywheel with the belt sprocket, and the belt. The motor is already wired for it. It was an option.
