I have a 1960 johnson 40 with a tiller and was wondering where I could get a remote setup for it and about what I would expect to pay for it.

Re: 1960 johnson controls

Try EBay for a set of Johnson Shipmaster or Evinrude Simplex controls. While Johnson and Evinrude called the controls a different name, they are the same. There are three basic versions - two that require Type 400 cables and one that requires Type 479 cables. Either type will work with that motor.

For your purposes, the only reason why you need to know the difference, is because the control units must be matched with the type of cable that they take. If you have to replace a cable at any point, you will need to know which you have. That's pretty easy, because the Type 400 cables have set screws on the cable ends, while the Type 479 have end fittings that have been "crimped" on.

Shipmaster. they work great if properly maintained. basically cleaned and a light lube otherwise they will get stiff and stubborn from dirt and grime.
