Hi im thinking about buying a 1960 Johnson 75Hp super seahorse (V45L12) on a lone star boat. The seller says that the boat has been sitting for a while and when it was running it was stuck in reverse (and needed some seals?). He wants 800$ for it with a trailer with title and reg for everything. Is it worth it?
Thank you

I'd find a mechanic who knows those motors and have him check it out for an opinion. Where are you located at ??

Alternatively, you might discount the value of the motor and try to price out the hull and trailer. If you are a collector or restorer -- or want to be -- a Lonestar Eldorado is a pretty good find. (Sounds like you might be in that size range.) $800 might be kind of steep for the hull and trailer, but if condition is good and it's a hull you want, maybe some potential there. The motor would tag along -- could turn out to be a pleasant surprise or an anchor.

But if looking for a cheap boat and motor to bang around in next weekend, that might not be the one. I agree with Boobie -- good to get an expert opinion if the motor is critical to you.

If the lower end is just stuck in reverse due to a linkage issue.... its possibly a good deal.

If you need a new lower end its going to be more to fix than what he wants for the whole package.
