I'm trying to help my dad find parts for his 1960 Johnson sea horse 18 HP outboard. He needs a carburetor rebuild kit and either a fuel pump rebuild kit or an aftermarket fuel pump. I think I found a carburetor rebuild kit but keep running into dead ends trying to find a fuel pump kit. Model number is FD-14 and serial number is 2055518 . 1960 18 HP. If the fuel pump rebuild kits are no longer available, is there an aftermarket diaphragm pump that would work?

That pump and replacement parts are long discontinued. You can use the newer square pump, but will probably need to replace your fuel lines.

Thanks RCO. Where can I find info on switching to the new system?

I'm pretty sure OMC pump # 0388685 is what you need

I think I would install 1 or 2 new diaphragms with a washer and keep the old looking pump.

So the diaphragms are still available? Bear with me, I don't have the motor at my house, nor do I have any experience in rebuilding these diaphragm pumps

Diaphragms have not been made for at least 50 years. Some people (including me) have managed to cobble something up using another diaphragm, but I don't recommend it. Break down and buy a new pump. It could save you a tow.

Ok we decided to buy the new pump. Are the fuel lines a different size or why do we need to replace them? I can't find much info on it.

Also will the new pump fit the same bolt pattern as the old one?

I just saw that the connections on the new pump are in a different location than the old pump, which is probably why they need to be replaced. Still wondering if the bolt pattern is same?
