I have the strangest problem with this motor. It runs great & idles smoothly when run in a barrel. But when I have it on the boat and put it under load, I can't get any RPM or speed out of it. In neutral, no problem, revs right up.
I have put new points & condensers in it. And I have re-built the carb. Still does the same thing. I have to go back and recheck the seal on the bottom of the bowl where the high speed adjustment is. It's possible that the seal came off or something during re-assembly.
When I run it in a barrel, if it does stall or when I shut it off, gas runs right out of the carb. And overall it acts like it is drowning in fuel.
Has anyone ever seen this problem? Any suggestions as to some other reason?
Please help.
Mathias

Howdy, Mathias.

I suspect that your engine is running too rich, probably because of a float needle problem or float level adjustment. If it isn't that you must be running on one cylinder.

Don't pay any attention to how the engine seems to run without a load. It will seem smooth on only one cylinder.

Try to start and run it in the barrel on one cylinder, then the other. That should tell you if both cylinders are making power.

Good luck and let us know what you find out. :)
