Looking for advice. I’ve been unsuccessful in removing the driveshaft from the powerhead. I’ve tried heat, PB Blaster, and some expensive Aussie penetrating spray and nothing is working. Any chance there is a tool out there for this? I’ve been pounding on a clamped a vice grip, with wood spacers.

Most likely, the o-ring at the top of the driveshaft is missing and water has gotten up there and rusted the driveshaft into the crank. Best bet is turn the motor upside down and run penetrating oil down the driveshaft and wait. Repeat process as needed and hopefully it will release with time.

So the lower unit is off but driveshaft is stuck in the crankshaft ?----Some will argue ---But I say the powerhead needs to come off to do a close inspection of the spline in the crankshaft.------If the driveshaft does come out the spline in the crankshaft may be weak and ready to fail anyway.

I’ll be opening the case shortly and will examine the spline gears as suggested. Thank you

He meant the splines in the crankshaft, not the lower unit. It is seized from rust caused by water getting in there and rusting the steel crankshaft. All caused by lack of a 15 cent o-ring. I hate it when that happens.

Something to try---hang it up by the drive shaft. Soak it good with your Aussie Magic Milk Spray. Now take a hammer and beat on the SIDES of the drive shaft, near the frozen splines. Don't give up too quickly, keep beating all the way around. Some guys use a pneumatic air hammer. If all fails, oh well you tried.

On the pictures he explains that is now separated from the crankshaft.

kind of a curious case. O-ring in place, and doesn't seem to be a rust issue. Pretty heavy carbon build up.
