boat mtor has been sitting for 8 years. new points and coils need tips on setting points.<br />also any other things i should do to get this motor running again before winter comes around i wanna fish again. the motor will start but very hard sometimes backfires, other times starts ok. do you rthink ineed to r&r carburetor and clean? i am stumped. also when running motor the throttle will not idle on its own? sounds like i have more problems with it that i have stated but i can possibly try to get it running decent for now

recheck your point gap to make sure its at man. specs. if not this will effect your timing cant hurt to pull the bowls and clean the jets in the carbs also change the impeller and lower unit oil hope this helps IN WASHINGTON STATE WE HAVE 2 SEASONS WINTER AND ROAD CONSTRUCTION

what if the points are set correctly? do you think there may be a problem elsewhere? also with it having two sets of points do i need to set them any special way? like when when set is open do i set the closed points first or the open points in other words i dont know what the hell i am doin . if it was a car no problem the weather here is similar great ice fishing though when it comes around when they hit they hit. my friend and i got 260 white bass within three hours a few weeks back wow have great pictures of these things had alot of fun any help i can get would be great
