:):)Hey fellas! ive got a couple of questions if you would. finally got the motor running well after a mass of parts tune up, coils , points, impeller carb rebuild. My problem now is while at idle i get small white/tan balls coming out of exhaust. oil/gas unburned. is this normal? More of it thsn id think or expect. yuo can definately see where ive been! next problem is i cant seem to get on plane. i have my family on it though 2 adults two kids myself included. any ideas would be awsome! thanks!

That's just exhause gunk...are you running it/seeing this in a barrel or on the water? It's normal to see that gunk when running it in a barrel...water gets real nasty. Are you running 24:1 TCW-3 oil/gas mix? Recommended. What year is your Lark? If you are still setting the carbs, follow the instructions in the Top Secret file at the top of the Johnson/Evinrude forum...sounds like the carbs need to be adjusted/tuned. Also need to do a link-n-synch after you put the carb back on, to make sure the timing advance is synchronized with the carb. The back butterfly in the carb throat should open smoothly and fully as you turn the throttle to Fast. Pix of the boat/motor will tell us whether your outboard is set correctly on the transom...that could affect planing as much as the motor running right.

when idling, warmin up in a spot youll see it. lots of unburnt fuel dump out.

I think the main concern is transom to antiaeration plate alignment. should be within an inch of transom.(height wise) too low you create drag.

not to start a debate, i have a 57 35hp I run at 50:1 with high quality AmsOil, its been discussed many times and will many more but most agree that 57 and up those motors used roller bearings not bushings so mixes leaner than 24:1 are acceptable.
They changed the recommended 24:1 to 50:1 in 1964 (according to service manual)

My guilt of running an old pollutin 2 stroke in the lake out weighs my belief of running it richer...

Use the TCW-3 oil and do a decarb - may clean things up a bit.
