1959 Johnson super sea horse getting hot

The motor is getting hot. Put a new impeller in the water pump. Thermostat is opening and closing. They only way we can get it to cool down is to take the t-stat house lid off and let it get air. Blow air threw all the lines and the air flo is strong. No water comin out the exhaust or pee holes unless u open the lid on the tsat. Help please and thank you.

Directly above the blow hose on the backside, there is an expansion plug ("freeze plug, Welsh plug, core plug"). Remove that plug and you will see about 5 small drilled holes. They may be plugged up.

Needless to say you will need a new expansion plug, part number 307541

Hi jbrad90. Welcome to iboats. Make sure the copper water uptake tube is properly seated on both the top of the water pump housing and the underside of the power head.
