Re: 1959 Johnson seahorse 10 hp
Welcome, there should be a number on the prop down on the barrel or near the base of a blade -- X -- or a part number.I believe the original prop is
an 8 1/4" X 8 1/2" (diameter in inches X pitch in inches) pitch indicates theoretical distance prop moves forward in one revolution. generally lower pitch(smaller number) makes it easier to push boat higher pitch harder to push boat but may produce higher top speed. The idea in selecting a prop is to match it to the boat, load and activities.Diameter is a product of design
and generally you wouldn't select a prop with a specific diameter.
All that being said you can take the prop to a prop shop and they can check size and may be able to repair it.I checked here at iboats there is a prop
listed sku 012007 8 1/4 X 8 1/2 Michigan wheel $79.Same prop fits 58-53
if you want to try to find a used prop.My guess is you could get it repaired like new for about 40 or 50 bucks. If you usually travel with a couple of buddies and gear you may want to go down one step in pitch. You shouldn't change pitch without a tachometer I believe tinytach is easy to use and install at about $40.really a must when fiddling with props. Also really good to have a GPS for speed.Don't be afraid to ask any question there are no stupid questions.Good luck
