I have an old 1958 Tee Nee boat trailer, I would like to restore it, and get it looking good again, I like the color yellow, but dont know ere to start with paint, ive got alot of sanding to still do though. I am also having trouble with registering it, the VIN number on it is already registered to another trailer, I could register it as homemade but idk.. Also I am looking to get some nice rims on it, like the classic chrome rounded ones, something fancy.... Half of the fun of boating is getting to the ramp. Also at my local ramp, everybody has this crap trailers, all rusted up and ugly, I sure Il get some good looks with this baby!!! Im got 8in wheels on it now, need new bearings, hubs are good, axel is great!. Il get some pictures soon!

Your post raises some questions. Did you just buy this trailer without papers? Why does it have a VIN to another trailer? Why in hell would you want to spend the time and money to restore a trailer that you know upfront you will have trouble titling and registering to you?

Ive always used other plates... In MA you dont need a title for a trailer weighing less than 3500gvw. Im sure I can register this in MA as homemade...But I will try it agaiin with the VIN... Im not really sure why it doesn't, im suspecting the laws might have changed back in the 60's 70's 80''s or 90's about VIN, and a new manufacture took the VIN. Im not to worried about registering, because ive registered many trailers as homemade. I have the BIll of Sale with it, thats all you need in MA. I might go again this week to try again at it.

Well let's see it. I'm partial to old Gator trailers myself.

I've run into the duplicate VIN before..

I was registering an old Montgomery Ward motorcycle (Made by Benelli) and DMV popped up with a Peterbuilt Semi with the same VIN.
They handled it realistically (amazingly rare for CA DMV)... made the note in the computer and handed me the license plate.

Those are very smooth riding trailers. I hope to see some pictures soon. The hub caps your looking for are called moon's I believe. They would look very sharp on that trailer.

"Moon" wheel covers covered the entire rim (wheel).

The same style "hub caps" were known as "Baby Moons".

My 2cts...if your going to redo a trl....forget about sanding and brushing.........Find someone who SANDBLAST'S. I recently redid a old rusty Shorelander, After screwing around trying to sand and wire brushing, I took it to sandblaster. In 2hrs it was down to bare metal, everywhere, axle, springs, everything. Cost $200.
