1958 SCOTT 60 HP FUEL PUMP

I RECENTLY ACQUIRED A 58 FLYING SCOTT 60 HP AND I'M CONFUSED ABOUT THE FUEL PUMP. THE ENGINE WAS NOT COMPLETE WHEN I GOT IT, AND IT IS CLEAR THAT THE FUEL PUMP IS MISSING. THERE APPEARS TO BE A MECHANICAL PUMP LOCATED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE MOTOR THAT IS NOT THERE. ACCORDING TO THE PARTS BOOK, THERE'S ALSO AN ELECTRIC PUMP IN THE JUNCTION BOX WHICH I ALSO DO NOT HAVE. MY QUESTION IS---DOES THIS THING HAVE TWO FUEL PUMPS OR DID MY PARTS BOOK NOT KEEP UP WITH DEVELOPMENTS IN THE ENGINE.

PLEASE HELP ME TO UINDERSTAND WHAT IS GOING ON.

Post pictures of the pages in your parts book.----I doubt there is a pump in the junction box.-----Most fuel pumps on those operate with crankcase compression pulses.-----You should be able to adapt many different pumps from Johnson / Mercury / Suzuki / Yamaha to that motor.

HERE ARE THE PHOTOS YOU REQUESTED. THE PARTS BOOK CLEARLY SHOWS AN ELECTRIC PUMP IN THE JUNCTION BOX, BUT INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, I CANNOT FIND A MECHANICAL PUMP LISTED ANYWHERE IN THE PARTS MANUAL. THE PHOTO OF THE ENGINE SHOWS THE AREA I BELIEVE THE MECHANICAL PUMP SHOULD BE AS EVIDENCED BY THE STRAY FUEL LINES DANGLING BY THE SIDE OF THE BLOCK AND A COUPLE OF LOOSE SCREWS THAT I THINK HELD IT IN PLACE. I'M ONLY GUESSING SINCE NO FUEL PUMP CAME WITH THE ENGINE.

ANYHOW, I'M INCLINED TO THINK THAT AT ONE TIME THIS MODEL ENGINE CAME EQUIPPED WITH AN ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP WHICH WAS LATER REPLACED BY A MECHANICAL PUMP.

ANY THOUGHTS?

Those were never sold with the electric fuel pump. They were shown having as having one, I believe that was a typo because that was the same time McCulloch bought them. I think Scott may have wanted an electric fuel pump but McCulloch changed that. I have an early 58 that actually say Scott-Atwater on the hood. The 58 is a one year only motor because the center section is cast differently. I imagine somebody replaced the original pump with an electric one. The only thing in the box should be a terminal strip, Voltage regulator and starter solenoid.

ONE OTHER QUESTION, I'M ABOUT TO START THE SEARCH FOR THE WATER PUMP IMPELLER AND FROM WHAT I SEE, IT'S GOING TO BE A CHALLENGE. HAS ANYONE COME UP WITH AN ALTERNATIVE IMPELLER THAT WILL WORK? THERE'S GOT TO BE AN IMPELLER FOR ANOTHER ENGINE OUT THERE THAT WILL WORK IN THESE OLD SCOTTS, BUT I SURE DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Join the AOMCI there are guys on there who make them.
