Should the throttle plate be perfectly horizontal when the roller and timing cam are at maximun advance, i.e. the roller is at the extreme end to the timing cam? I can pull the roller down another 1/4 " or more and the throttle plate will be horizontal, but with the roller merely on the cam and the cam at maximinum travel, the throttle plate is maybe 2/3 the way to wot. I've got the cam pulled out as far as it'll go from the armature plate. A roller with the diameter of a nickel might get the throttle plate to full horizontal. Is the throttle plate even supposed to achieve a horizonal position on these models?...I believe I've had shafts, levers, and links every way but Sunday..

It's supposed to be horizontal at WOT. Moving the cam only adjusts when if first hits, not WOT. Does that one have a split shaft on the linkage from the roller to the throttle butterfly shaft? If so, you can adjust at the coupler between the two shafts to effectively lenthen it. If not, post back and someone will have an idea.

hmmm..I guess "split shaft" is what the term would be..on the roller shaft and throttle shaft one side is flat...it makes sense that these "flats" would move in parallel with each other, I just can't seem to make that happen...thanks, KB

A few possibilities here. First, the plate may not be exactly horizontal, though it is supposed to be. But a bit off is not detrimental.

Somebody shoot me if I am wrong, but I believe the #23 link between the two levers is supposed to be in the outer hole in the upper arm and inner hole in the lower arm. The link or holes may be worn sloppy loose.

The roller may be worn/grooved. Or a makeshift one somebody put in there.

The roller shaft #31 might be twisted, but unless somebody has been horsing really hard on it, unlikely. As a last resort, try bending it back. But don't cry if you break it.

Mannnn F_R..you've confirmed what I suspected. Both upper and lower levers have only one hole, and I suspect they were from some other motor. The link rod between the two was a contorted piece of coat hanger which someone had actually drilled 2 small holes in for the cotter keys. I ordered both levers and the link and received 2 lower levers and a link. Well, now that both you and KB have confirmed the horizontal at WOT..it's to the bone yard again to find an upper lever..appreciate the help...beginnin' go wonder if I can claim "blue" as a dependent
