I have been trying to find a fuel leak for my evinrude outboard. It is leaking out the very bottom opposite the prop. It only leaks when running. I checked the fuel line they are good with no cracks. Checked compression and it is good. Where could the leak be coming from? It does not come out the exhaust port. Also the pump diaphram was checked and does not leak. Any help? I am ready to give up on this motor.

Don't give up, it was made that way. You probably have heard it said they are gas guzzlers. That is one of the reasons why. As the fuel and air mixture passes through the crankcase, it slows down, especially at idle speeds. Then droplets of gas sort of "rain' out of the air stream and puddle up in the bottom of the crankcase. Actually four puddles, one for each cylinder. To prevent those puddles, it is fitted with drain valves to drain off the liquid puddle. Guess where it goes from there---yep, you see it.

Yep. You're supposed to pipe that wasted gas over to your kicker, so it'll run.:D:D

The raw fuel from the crankcase should exit the exhaust passage, behind and above the prop. My '59 50HP Johnny dumped about 1 gal of fuel/6 gal of fuel. There is a way to recycle it, after a fact.

Trying to remember exactly where that drain hose fitting is, this might be a good point. If so, how about a broken (or missing) drain hose dumping it into the cowling? The drain hose is a short piece of hose running horizontally along the lower starboard side of the powerhead.

In the drain hose was broken or missing, the fuel would run out between the inner midsection and the outer casing. It would pool on the AV plate.

Yeah, I know. What I don't understand is what he is saying when he says out the very bottom opposite the prop and not out the exhaust.

Yep that is right it does not come out the exhaust port as I would expect. Thank is why it is so puzzling. It drips out the back side not the prop side. Also I do not see any drain port below the platform that the engine sits on. thanks for all the imput
