Is it possible that some one has put a different model lower unit on my 1958 sea horse? The reason i am asking is because i ordered a new impeller, and the new on is twice the thickness as my old one. I don't no what to do, how am i suppose to find the right impeller? Some one please help!

Does your lower unit have a single water tube or two water tubes? I believe the earlier single tube water pumps used the thinner impeller, and the dual tube models were thicker.

should there be any space above the impeller in the housing or should it fit tight? I got to thinking and since it is not the original lower unit maybe the guy who had the motor before me put the wrong impeller in it

Single water tube would be an earlier model. I think in early '58 they used up the prior year stock before converting to the 2 tube lower unit with the thermostat. Just order an impeller for a 1957 35hp - that should be the right one.
