Just acquired 2 new motors, so probably going to actually start selling or trading some soon. Earlier tonight I did some horse trading for a 1969 Chrysler electric start and and a 1957 or 1958 Johnson 18 hp Seahorse, both need nothing but a good cosmetic overhaul. I don't know squat about the Chryslers. Does anyone know if they are a sound motor? It's ugly as sin, has a big bubble on the top to make room for the electric start and you actually have to have a key to start it. But anyway, I know where there is a really nice 1950 Wizard...

just my opinion, but nothing inherently wrong with the Chrysler motors, but since they have not been made in a long time they are harder to find parts for and more expensive when you do. I was running a 1967 6hp on my sailboat. It was very dependable, but too heavy for the boat so I sold it and got a lighter one.

If I were you I would stay away from that Chrysler. They're are a pain in the butt to find parts for, at least that's the knowledge I've gained from personal experience. Also I don't think the quality of workmanship that went into these motor is as high as some others.

I just traded the Chrysler for a 1973 50 hp Evinrude. As far as the Chrysler goes, it is a 40 year old motor that starts right up and runs very good and smooth, that has to say something in their favor. I didn't really want it . I traded a guy a cutting torch and Playstation 2 for the Johnson and he threw the Chrysler in with it. They both run but the Johnson has been badly abused. it has a broken mount bracket, broken ventilation plate, and a 9x9 prop that it looks like they tried to shred diamonds with. Any opinions on the 50 hp? I didn't really want it either so it's going on the market.
