Hello all,
I recently acquired the above engine, and am seeking some guidance. The engine has a SN tag on the lower end with a SN of 1053639 which appears to place it on the Mark 6 "Comet Silent Six" category. But the cowl has a MX on it, see photo, and I can't seem to find any reference to this model anywhere.
Also, the magneto has been "borrowed" from this engine, and the fly wheel does not appear to match either the Phelan, or the Scintilla brands? I have put a picture of the flywheel, and the ID tags as well.
Any help in understanding what model, or which magneto I may need would be great.
Thanks,
Chuck

The emblems on your motor are off of a Mercury automobile. The motor is definitely a Mark 6. I believe that one should have a phelon magneto, the earlier models had Bendix scintilla . That power head looks like it was pretty seriously overheated at some point, how is the compression?

Makes sense, thanks. Yeah, the water pump impeller was shot, so my guess is it did over heat. The good new is the compression is excellent. But, I do need an impeller. :)
