Hi guys thanks for help with the impeller problem but I decided I didn't have time to get it done quick. So I took it to a local shop and they said the impeller was fine but he said there was a crack in the upper cylinder. So I need a new cylinder.
Should I just give up on the motor now? I did a quick ebay search and not to much luck.
What is some good advice?
Thanks guys,
Matt

Do you mean the block is cracked or the piston? I assume you mean the block, in which case you might as well look for a new motor.

A truly cracked cylinder would be a very unusual thing. Maybe you misunderstood. You should go to the shop and have them SHOW you what's wrong.

That's the trouble with us guys, too proud or too much ego to ask questions. Send your wife down there, she'll ask. (I take it all back if you are the wife).

Ha Ha thanks guys. It was my wife that actually talked to the shop and the told her that the upper cylinder is cracked. And said I would need a new cylinder or motor all together.

If I was to find a parts motor what years would work?
Thanks again

'57, Some but not all '58.

'56 was 30hp, and the '59 as well as the rest of the '58s are different. '60 was 40hp

Hey, I didn't say your wife would understand what they were telling her. Or be able to explain it to you. They might have shown her a "groove" worn in the cylinder and by the time she got home she called the groove a crack. But God bless her for going in and asking. That took guts.
