Ok,guys got an issue here and I know there is help on this forum.I have been rebuilding this ignition system, every thing is new from the stator base on up,I have rebuilt the carb with a new impeller and properly installed the coils by setting the air gap then checking the clearence by hand rotating the flywheel checking for ANY inteference.I have hot spark and correctly torqed the flywheel nut then rechecked for inteference.
She started right up,however I noticed a slight noise which I thought was from under the flywheel, after which I did remove the flywheel to find the number 1 coil had been slightly in contact with the magnet.
So my question is do I reset the coils slightly inset from the factory specs?...and did this damage the coil or magnet?
Thanks.

Strange, I just had a fellow drop a Javelin off for me to look at last week with a similar issue. He had running issues. Pulled the flywheel, and found metal shavings everywhere, some lodged in the points, causing the issues. It was from the heel of the coil hitting the magnet as well. His were obviously too far out though. They have to be set so that the end of the bevel of the mounting boss aligns perfectly with the edge of the lamination of the coil. Be sure that your nail does not catch at all before installing flywheel, and ensure you tighten the coil down tight.

The coil and magnet should be fine. Does the magnet look ok physically? Will it grab a screwdriver? Also cannot hurt to inspect the crank taper and crank mounting surface of the flywheel. Also ensure the taper is clean and dry before torquing. Is there excessive play in the flywheel fore to aft after mounted?

It was only after in had fired up that any problem was noticed,I am familiar with the heel setting and did double check,I took some emery cloth and rubbed the mags and yes it is a STRONG magnet and physically appears normal. The motor has sheared a key before as evident . I used a bit of lapping compound on the taper and hub to ensure a good seat, carb cleaner DRY and CLEAN and there is no play.
Could there possibly be a hub infraction going on here?...and if so what are the remedies?
I did install a new BRP key.
