Yep, that coil is toast. Replace both and you'll see a big difference.

If the coils show any signs of discoloration or cracking replace them.
They are a common weak point. Readily available right here at iboats.
Be sure the flywheel key is not damaged and the nut properly torqued
60-65 ft lbs.

while you are there, replace everything you haven't, why have to go back, including plug wires. coils and condensers. front edge of coil mount has to line up the the boss on the mounting point.

Good advice as everything under the flywheel can be replaced coils included for 100 dollars or less. Before I torque the flywheel down after replacing everything I always put the flywheel on and check for spark. You can turn it fast enough by hand to see if you have spark and not worry about shearing the key.

All the preceeding replies are good advice, especially getting rid of that cracked coil. The reason I'm chiming in is your comment that it misfires at high idle. If you are saying it drops a cylinder when running at high idle speeds in neutral, or out of the water, it is supposed to do that. It is the vacuum cut-out switch in action. If it didn't drop that cylinder, it would be in danger of running wild and out of control. However the vacuum cut-out switch shouldn't activate if it is running in gear under normal load conditions.

if it is a 35 hp javelin, it is going to be weak for a 16 ft fiberglass boat. it will get you there, but, 16's usually had 50's to 115's on them.

If all you want to do it get there it will do. I am running the same motor, but on a 12ft wooden boat. I get 27 by gps on mine.

The props for the 40hp motors are the same as the ones for your Javelin. The only thing you can do is to select a different pitch prop and going to a higher pitch isn't going to help you - all you will accomplish is to lug your motor and, in all probability, make the boat even slower.
