Re: 1957 Golden Javelin

nymarine.ca sells a reproduction medallion. It's unfinished and the jury is still out on exactly how to go about reproducing the chrome and gold plating effects on the back side. Paint doesn't work so well. I've been thinking maybe the "bare metal foil" that scale modelers use to simulate chrome and aluminum. One might be able to get it electroplated by one of those outfits that re chromes plastic muscle car instrument panels and stuff. But how do you do both chrome and gold? Good luck! And let's see the pictures! :)

Cheers.....................Todd

Find a good color photo of one, have a local sign shop fabricate a vinyl decal just like it. Mount it on some thin lexan and Bob's your uncle. Or post a wanted ad on the free classifieds at www.aomci.org

Re: 1957 Golden Javelin

Thank`s for the quick reply`s..I will check out both options..
I did however get 2 pint`s of paint and hardner from some Peter guy in Canada for 200 dollars..He also said that he could make me a medalion, but at his price`s,I thought I`d try something a wee bit cheaper..
If you can tell me how to post a picture,I would love to show this on off.

There is a process called "Vacuum Metallizing Plastic".

If you have a non-chrome original or reproduction, it is not that difficult. I have seen it done on several auto restorations. Check these guys out, don't know what they charge, but they do it.

There is also a two stage paint process that I have seen used on complete autos & a couple of planes, and is quite popular in the auto tuning scene in Europe.

Here is a link to a State Side company selling it.

Here is a shot of their copper chrome.

Re: 1957 Golden Javelin

WOW!!!!! You definitely need an emblem:D that rechrome and paint is just AWESOME. what kind of boat are you putting it on? I sure hope you post lots of pics of your fig when you finish it. You do some nice work. If you can't find an emblem, let me know and I'll buy the rest of that motor from you.;)

Have you placed an ad on aomci.org's site yet? That would be the best bet. I also don't see why you couldn't get one from Peter and have it chromed and painted. It's going to be hard to get a used one that will match the quality of your paint/chrome.
good luck,
JBJ

Watch the auction site and check the free classifieds at www.aomci.org
I always get a response or two or three to the parts needed ads I have posted there in the past. Nice work.

Re: 1957 Golden Javelin

I fell in love with this boat and Javelin from the first time I laid eyes on her!

My wife seems to think that there are better ways to spend our money though, geesh eh, the nerve!
