While I was in college, I found a steal on what I was told was a 1956 Starcraft Speedster. The guy I bought it from said he found the original paint specs and repainted it. Currently it is a bright red and white. He gave me brackets for a windshield but I don't think they actually go to my boat. Now that I am out of college and working a family, I ready to get it running again. Does anyone have any photos of a 1956 or 1958 for me to compare? Thanks.

Welcome aboard lief! There is a 1958 brochure in the brochure thread stickied at the top of the forum. Is there a Coast Guard plate anywhere on it or a serial number? Both can often help with identifying boats. Also, do you have any pictures? Again, welcomed to the Starmada!

I spent the day today cleaning it up. I need to fix/replace the outboard before she hits the water again but here are the pics. The transom plate say Model 12' Speedster Serial 59-2572

"need to get it running again" ??? that thing looks great and will be the coolest thing on any lake you take it to. nice deep hull to keep kids inside the boat too. guessing you're in Iowa from the regis on boat? what motor do you have and what does it need? i assume that thing is rated for no more than 35ish hp, and you could move it nicely with a 9hp kicker.

At the moment, I have a broken 1976 Johnson 35 hp for it. It ran well the first few times I had it out but has since had some issues. I posted a different thread to try to get some help with it (see below). I should be making some extra cash this summer so I am considering buying a brand new motor but I would rather save the cash it I can.

couldn't get that link to work. but that's an excellent motor and easy to work on so i wouldn't be too quick to ditch it. if it has good compression, everything else is fixable for not too much $.

Lief--

that's your fuel pump assy in pix. "filter" is just a screen on its inlet. i agree with the guy who noted that you can get all parts needed for 150ish. not a hard fix. if you can't get snapped bolt out yourself, you can take it to a machine shop.

this is a common enough engine that you shouldn't have any trouble finding parts. find a real OMC (johnson and rude motors in this size and that year are exactly the same so either will work) shop manual on fleebay.

Re: 1956 or 1958 Starcraft

I recently acquired a 1958 Starcraft Speedster (I didn't know what it was). I called Starcraft and found a desk that could help determine what I had and the capacity and max hp for the boat. I filled out a form (including the vessel id from the title) and submitted a few photos paid $30 and got a new plate for the Speedster. The plate now rates the Speedster to max 25 hp and 675 pounds payload. I still unsure if I'm going to restore or let someone else have the fun.
