You can do whatever you like to your boat. Whether it is worth the time and money only you can tell. My guess is that it would take a fair amount of both to get the motor running and the boat in the water in a safe condition. If you decide to do a restoration - plan on spending a lot of both.

With this being your first boat you might want to limit what you do with this one as it probably will get frustrating and wait until you can get one in decent condition. On the other hand a restoration can be very satisfying and you will be proud of the result. Your call - - -

thanks for your reply ,i did start taking the boat apart, so far so good, only 10 inch sliced crack on the hull.will paint next week, cutting new floor, carpet and making the seats.my biggest think is the motor.

mornin laszlo,

those ol' JohnyRudes are pretty basic motors. take a look at the following link. it will offer some insights on restoring an old machine and may give some insights into weather it's worth pursuing.

http://www.precisionserv.com/Outboards/Revitalization.htm

if you think sh'e worth the effort, get a service manual. it is well worth the $30. Also, lots of parts still available for omc so that should not be a big concern.

let us know what you find.

Good Luck
HAVE FUN!
