Hello everyone I am new to this forum and this is my first post but will probably have many more to come in the future as I am starting a john boat/motor project and this is my first boat ive Owned and don’t have any experience with outboards. I look forward to learning everything I possibly can and am open to any suggestions or advice yall might
Have.
I recently picked up this 1956 cd-13 motor that hasn’t been run in 15 years. I really want to restore it back to good running condition. So far I have checked the compression and both cylinders are are at 80psi.
The next thing I checked was the lower unit gear oil. I opened up the drain plug and there wasn’t a single drop of oil in it. I did check to see if it was properly shifting into gears and it seemed okay from what I could tell without tearing it apart and inspecting it. I’m not too sure if that’s a bad thing or not.
The next thing came across is where the large handle is it is cracked where the throttle handle goes on and there is a male shift bracket on there to hold it together.
- I was wandering if there is any possible way to repair this by taking it apart and welding it and grinding it smooth?
not sure if this metal is weldable or if there might be another way of rejoining the metal where it is cracked at. I have attactched pictures of The cracks.
I think this is where I might start my first repair on the motor
and try to clean up the motor a little also.
